Where there's a will, there's a way...

Why is it that something as mundane and important as updating our wills doesn't become a critical thing to do until you are about to leave the country?

The first and last time we did our wills was back when we were headed to Switzerland & Germany..... maybe 20 years ago?  Most of our kids were still minors under 21 and they were being 'left' to my nephew and his wife had something happened to us.  I'm sure that they are glad that they didn't ever have to take over our brood, although it would have been a house full of laughs had that happened, as my nephew is only ten years younger than I, and who, at 50-something, is pretty much still a kid and comedian at heart.

So high on my list of "Things to do Before We Leave" was to emancipate Tom & Sheri from our grown children and to make it easier for the system in NC to distribute our (haha) substantial wealth if something happens while we are gone. That action was also under-minded by the belief that IF we updated the wills nothing WOULD happen.  Pretty smart, eh?.  It was like buying an additional rider onto our trip insurance.

So today is not about granite, nor about the busy, uncharted and unexpected workday we had yesterday, nor about the tours as promised.  It's about what we leave to whom UNTIL we get back:

  1. To Barbara and Dennis, our clients who graciously gave us upteen zillion limes for our nightly gin and tonics from their lime tree last winter: We leave our newly potted lime tree entrusted to your care. This along with his rose bushes and his grandchildren, just might be Dick's pride and joy, so.... no pressure...just DON'T KILL THE TREE!
  2. To Susan Sinnott, our faithful former office admin and our new "traveling notary" that makes house & office calls, who seemingly cannot read a calendar, much less date an affidavit for our wills: We leave you the care of the SSI Design Group business while we are gone only because you have the right initials!
  3. To our kids: We leave you what might be left over after having such a great time in Europe...You can have our credit card bills. After all of these years it's "Turn about fair play".
  4. To Jeremy: We leave you our bungy cord to tie 'Becca's legs together so that our g'baby #10 doesn't arrive until his/her due date on the 24th...after we get back. (And NO, you cannot use our car to get her to the hospital! Been there, done that!)
  5. To Danielle, Vickie, Rebecca and Morgan:  Happy early Mother's Day to four of the most fabulous women who mother our grandchildren.  We are so very blessed to have you as their moms!
So we are almost off... with three carry-on's for three-weeks. That was a challenge, especially for someone like myself who always takes more just in case...

Ciao; Au revoir, and all... We'll post pics when we can!  Stay tuned!
